My precise! Fear not the Lion!

May 12, 2012 Leave a comment

In Linux world every distro realease is like a Divali! for the ubuntu fan it come to April and october for every year..But after  unity ‘s introduction there is a stunned silence, several developers and fans are now turning to mint only..I my self cann’t use Ubuntu, but curiousty kill the crow! so i took the final plung… before hand I had to say something about ubuntu’s new 12.04 Precise Pangolin

It has a new quick search feature called the HUD, some new privacy settings, a few tweaks to the Unity interface, and more.

This release is another “Long Term Support” release, meaning Canonical will support it for longer than other versions—five years

Have you ever been in a situation where you’re using a program, and want to do something specific that you know is in the menus, but you just don’t know where? The new HUD solves that problem. Just hit Alt, and a search bar will pop up in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. From there you can type in what you’re looking for, and it will return any menu items that match your queris.

Over time, it also learns from your previous choices to make the search more and more accurate

the “Appearance” panel in the software’s system settings lets you more easily configure some properties of Unity

power savings, RC6–the technology that allows GPUs to go into a very low power consumption state when the GPU is idle–is now enabled by default for Sandy Bridge systems. The result can be improvements of between 40 and 60 percent in power usage under idle loads,

Don’t like Unity?

I dunno why, I also used to hate unity too. But Unity is getting better

and if you still don’t want unity, you can google on Cinnamon, Gnome 2 or Gnome shell to replace unity with it.

like this

also I’m getting tired of people comparing Ubuntu with linux Mint.

even if Linux mint best Ubuntu, the linux community would go no where like the last 10/15 years

While Ubuntu is the only Linux Distro that is going out of the PC Box

whole the way to Tablets, TV and Mobile

and ask yourself, what has Mint done?

Alternatively, the good folks at Cairo Dock can help us with just adding a function of window titles / names in their Dock in ‘Panel view’. Problem solved. Best of both worlds, Classic & Unity!

Ofcourse I lavishing the praise but, lets us come to the practical user part

Installed in my Lenova Thinkpad X120E, which already housed Win 7,pear Linux and Linux Mint 12.

Shocked to see ‘Grub rescue> message on reboot.. In my assembed AMD box which housed the same Oses, also same problem..In both cases I manually installed ‘pRECISE’ on Pear Linux place. in my Thinkpad case, using the Ubuntu Cd in the Live mode, reinstalled the grub..

In my Desktop simply deleted the failed ubuntu partition again recreated it, installed ubuntu..This is strange.. AFTER 9.04 i never seen this message ‘grub rescue’ in every Linux installation,in my Desktop as well as my friends laptops..
After experimenting with unity’s HUD, my next shock was, network manager not recognising my BSNL ;Capitel EVDO modem…until 11.10 ubuntu work fne . After finding the vendor id and product id from ‘lsusb ‘ command in Terminal I edit the etc/modules file and wrote it, so I need not retyping the same..Now EVDO is fine..Now I know ehy ‘Linux Mint is now on top of DW..

One great improvement that Precise has over other distributions,(Including mint) is it has a great power saving which is a life saver for my Thinkpad x102e.. another great features is without installing the any additional propritary ATI drivers it work great.. still to evolvate before finally love it or hate it..

‘Nixie’ -the Lady Gaga of Linux!

September 11, 2011 Leave a comment

It may infuriated Traditional Linux purist..Because, Linux and sex never match also it is widely thought female gender don’t acknowledged, they are Linux users..because no body wanted to be called to be a ‘geek’, which is predominantly associated with ‘Male’ gender dominated world..

But my view changed drastically when a years agosearching for a linux tutorials, ‘Nixie’ surfaced dramatically..First i may misunderstood  her post.. because ‘you could not get away by saying’ ubuntu sucks’ and publishing in youtube, .. but she did it.. than get away unscratched.. That is amazing..Her post generated more than 4,50,000 viewer for the title’Ubuntu themes’..average 1 lakh people are viewing her post.. that is amazing,..

Some of her titles are , ‘ Go for open source or Go home”

‘how to cure Windows virus with ubuntu linux?

She is actually a game blogger, but turn her attention to Linux particularly Ubuntu that is all..

However, all her viewers has agreed on one single point without reservation..’She is too sexy.. and  distract the viewers about what she is saying’

Many of the commenter are very much making bad comments about her figures instead of Linux.. however there are some genuine Users who think she explained the hard coded linux in very Less sentence.. This is a victory for her.. She also admit this fact, Even if 10% of the viewers are converted to Linux, it is enough for me..

When asking about her dress,

I wear things that I like – that I think look good, and that I feel comfortable in. If others like it too I find that very flattering, but it isn’t why I wear it.

She is avid game enthusist but now give some of her free time about Linux

I have recently discovered the joys of Linux as an operating system, and created a little part of my site devoted to sharing my experiences with others; perhaps helping them avoid the same pitfalls I’ve made.

she has accomplished what Richard Stqallmen and Linus could not do in their 20 years, she is attracting attention for Linux in online and social network…

She is what lady GAGA to Music  to linux at now.. I wish  RMS should be ‘Nixie- the Linux Doll”

Zorin OS what Ubuntu should be!

July 24, 2011 1 comment

I am a Ubuntu guy.. but presently enjoying the Unity in one my paritition  but always search for some flexible OS than Ubuntu.. Recently it is always Linux Mint… Reasons are many.. too many friends are on Windows striods and as a friend i have to always answer their calls  restore their OS along with Linux mint.. it is the only price always asking my friends to pay.. they don’t know what dual boot is when they are offerred additional OS which can easily do all their core work in Windows.. For must of my friends are grown up adults so they don’t need any game, but need some office suit, multimedia playback music movies and songs..It is not easy to convince them to drop windows forever.. My only request to them is just try for my sake’ so they try  then pleasantly surprised, then never call me again.. Only one friend return, but that is the hardware failure due to power fluctuation …Now I found a new distro to offer to my friends.. That is Zorin OS..

Why should you consider it? Here are just a few reasons.

1. Windows like graphical UI

Much like the Ubuntu base that underlies it, It is designed especially for newcomers to Linux. It has a Windows-like graphical user interface and many programs similar to those found in Windows.

Zorin OS also comes with software including Wine and PlayOnLinux that let users run many Windows programs. The distribution’s ultimate goal is “to provide a Linux alternative to Windows and let Windows users enjoy all the features of Linux without complications,” in the project’s own words.

What this means, of course, is that Zorin OS is a great distribution for those who are comfortable with the look and feel of Windows, but still want to see what Linux is all about. Alternatively, it can be perfect for employees or coworkers who don’t like change.

2. It give easy transition to Windows Users

Zorin OS comes with the ever-popular GNOME interface familiar to countless Ubuntu users, but it also offers a number of alternatives direct from the proprietary world. Specifically, the operating system features a unique “Look Changer” program that lets users change the software’s interface at the touch of a button.

Menu bar (GnoMenu) is actually twin of Windows 7

All users need do is click on the Windows 7 or Windows XP option, for example, and their desktop looks and behaves accordingly. Premium versions of Zorin OS–targeting gaming and multimedia uses, for example–also include interfaces mimicking those of Mac OS X, Windows Vista and Windows 2000. My 3G network from Nokia %*)) Xpress Music has been recognised . See the bottom panels  notification about’ BSNL 3 G active’

3.Attraction of  GNOME

Those of us who have gotten used to Ubuntu have become accustomed to its default GNOME desktop. For those anxious about the distribution’s upcoming switch to the Touch enabled Unity interface, Zorin OS offers an option for sticking with what’s familiar.

Also like Ubuntu, Zorin OS comes pre-installed with OpenOffice, Firefox, the Evolution e-mail client, the Rhythmbox music player, the Totem video player, the GIMP image editor, lots of multimedia codecs, and more.

Seamless windows Transition!

4. It’s Fast

When speed is of the essence, Zorin OS really shines. Not only is its latest version faster than Ubuntu, its makers say, but it clocks in at a full four times faster than Windows 7. That’s pretty impressive.

With the help of Wine and PlayOnLinux, meanwhile, Zorin OS even runs many Windows apps faster than Windows does, the project says. It’s also available in more than 55 languages.

5. Not necessary to pay Windows TAX

It come with free and no need to pay windows Tax to  M$ slavery empire. You are free man here. As always in the Linux world, you can take the free  Zorin OS without committing to it until you’re ready. The Zorin OS 5 Core release is available for free download from the project’s site. Alternatively, Zorin OS 5Gaming and Multimedia releases each cost 10 euros, while Zorin OS 5 Ultimate is 15 euros from the project’s store.

6. Flying with compiz

It is not only preconfigured with compiz but fly with pre-customised option like exploding desktop

Magic land of compiz
